The durability of lash extensions - and how to extend them

The durability

Normally, a well-executed eyelash extension should last around 6 weeks. If the fullness diminishes during this period, the refill appointment can also take place after 3 to 4 weeks, depending on the client's wishes.
As always when working with and on people, there are a few variables to consider - from both the stylist and the client. During the pre-treatment consultation, you can find out some of these variables if you ask the right questions. Under the following circumstances, the durability is reduced, which you should prepare your clients for:

Hormonal fluctuations: During pregnancy, breastfeeding and menopause, hormones go a little crazy. This has an effect on the hair, including the natural lashes that are supposed to hold the lash extensions. During these times, it is therefore impossible to predict how long the eyelash extensions will last.
Medication and illnesses: Taking medications such as cortisol, other hormonal medications or thyroid disease will also affect hormone levels, which can lead to weakened lashes and the premature shedding of lashes with extensions.
Emotional stress: Here too, there is a risk that the hairs are not properly nourished and therefore fall out; this often only becomes noticeable a month after the stressful phase. The natural resources should first be replenished to ensure that the eyelash extensions last as long as possible.
What you as a stylist should pay attention to during application to ensure the longest-lasting result possible:
  1. Your working materials - the lash extensions should always be adapted to your client's natural lashes, both in terms of curl and length. If the lashes are too heavy, they will come loose more quickly. Choosing the right adhesive is also crucial for a long-lasting and beautiful result.
  2. The right equipment - professional eyelash extensions can only be carried out correctly and easily with good lighting, a relaxed client and precise tools (such as tweezers), which in turn has an impact on durability
  3. Your technique - here are a few points that are particularly important to prolong the durability of the laser extensions. To begin with, it is important to thoroughly clean the natural lashes in order to reliably remove dirt and dust particles. The primer should be adapted to the natural lashes and the climate.
  4. Application - Ensure the correct amount of adhesive and precise placement of the extensions to guarantee optimum hold. Maintain the distance to the eyelid and apply so that the adhesive area is sufficient but not too large.
  5. The glue - Pay attention to the drying times of the glue; you can speed this up with special tools such as a glue dryer or a small fan.
If you work cleanly and properly with good materials, that's half the battle. What you can only influence through good educational work is customer behavior - after all, this contributes around 50% to the durability of the eyelash extensions.
So here are the most important points that your customers should consider when caring for their eyelash extensions: No water or steam should get on the lashes for the first 24 hours after treatment. Saunas, hot baths or long showers with steaming hot water are taboo for the time being to allow the adhesive the time it needs to cure Avoid mechanical damage: This includes anything that involves rough and direct contact with the eyelashes. As a stomach or side sleeper, the eyelash extensions are pressed against the pillow, which can bend or detach them. You should also take care not to pull your clothes directly over your eyelashes when changing your clothes every day, which could cause them to be pulled unconsciously.
Make-up and make-up remover: Although mascara is no longer necessary after eyelash extensions, some customers still don't want to do without eyeliner or eyeshadow. With waterproof make-up, the remover must also be suitable for waterproof make-up and these usually contain oil. This in turn can weaken the adhesive or, in the worst case, dissolve it and the eyelashes fall out - so only use water-soluble make-up
Daylie Care Routine - The eyelashes should be cleaned daily with eyelash shampoo and brushed carefully. In addition, a good eyelash serum supports the natural lashes that support the eyelash extensions. If the natural lashes are healthy and strong, the eyelash extensions will also last longer.
A filling appointment will be due sooner or later anyway, but in the interests of you and your customers, it is advisable not to provoke this unnecessarily early. When advising and informing your customers, make sure you use a friendly but firm tone and have the right care products ready for them to take with them. This makes home care uncomplicated and simple and increases the likelihood that your customers will follow the care instructions you give them.
Of course, there are thousands of reasons why the durability of laser extensions can be reduced, but here we have summarized the most common and most likely ones for you. So you're on the safe side and can work confidently - for long-lasting results without complications.
